Legendary Guardian - The Disclaimers

Standard Disclaimer

All things Final Fantasy belong to SquareSoft.  I am in no way affiliated with the company – I am simply obsessed with Auron.  He owns me.  Go figure.

I have not, nor do I intend to, make a profit using the intellectural property of said company. This work is purely for my own pleasure, and those who take the time to read it. In addition to the use of concepts, locations, names, and other intellectual ideas found in Final Fantasy X, this story includes many non-canonical characters, concepts, and situations created by myself.  If for some reason you ever want to use or make reference to them – just send me an e-mail to have official permission.

Lastly, I’m a poor artist, suing will get you nothing but pastels and Black and White negatives.

What's this FanFiction work about?:

In short, this is Auron’s story.  From birth to Braska you’ll read it here if you can stand my prose long enough. Some chapters will include game spoilers and will (hopefully) be marked as such.  Auron’s life, as given by SquareSoft in Final Fantasy X, lends itself to tragedy and angst. Expect some here.  I will, however, do my best to make sure he isn’t “a stiff” -- even if it is what Jecht likes about him.

Because Square publicly announced their intention that FFX have a feel reminiscent of Okinawa, Japan; I have used various Japanese and East Asian works for reference materials. Auron and his family are based largely on the Samurai culture of the Third Shogunate (1603-1868). Though I drew from many sources for various rituals and Oaths for the Church of Yevon, most of the description of daily life in the Temple and Monastary is based on Zen Monastic life. As a result, Auron will sometimes lapse into Japanese at moments of great importance or emotional import. Knowledge of the Japanese language is implied for those attached to the Church of Yevon. For now, these phrases - along with the Japanese terms used for weapons, food, and religious concepts - are in notes at the top of each chapter. In time, I will embed these definitions within the text with a hyperlinked index of terminology so the story may be read fluidly.

Having said this, I do not, however consider all of the people of Spira to be of Japanese background. SquareSoft created a specific culture and language for the Al Bhed. When Al Bhed show up in my story, they speak their language. I have linked to an online "translator" for my readers convenience, but in time will also embed these translations. Additional cultures referenced are American, French, German, Celt, and Russian. Most of these references are currently oblique, but will flesh out as I do edits and make character profiles for the major players in this story.

Ratings and Warnings:

The majority of this work of fiction can be considered as PG-13 material. Two "side stories" to Legendary Guardian will eventually be included here. Destiny Divides is a romance between Auron and his first girlfriend. It has some mature themes and implied situations that I might, being cautious, call R. Chapters that have content that might be considered mature, violent, or sexual in nature will have a short warning note before the chapter title. It's up to you if you read the content folks and I will not be held responsible if you do and are underage or don't like it.

The second "side story" is completely optional and is NC17 in some portions. It is an alternate take on Auron and Braska's relationship as it develops in the context of Legendary Guardian. It may be read completly on its own and will be posted in a special area with clear warnings of shouen-ai/yaoi/LEMON. Again, I will not be held responsible if you are underage. There will be ample warning that you are entering an area of mature and restricted content and you will be asked if you are over 18 before the Table of Contents comes up. If you get that far and are underage or think graphic stuff is sick, then don't cry to me about it. I'm not responsible for what you do with your own eyes.

Final Comments:

I have never before written Fan Fiction.  I do not anticipate that I will ever do so again when this long and involved history is concluded.  I don’t know if I’ll find the time to finish this one.  I still can’t believe that this game, and this character, consumed me so completely.  I consider it a testament to the skills of those at Square that Auron could so profoundly motivate me.

So, without further delay....On with the story!
